Description

Anna Rackard is a photographer who takes inspiration from fine art and culture and translates it through the medium of her camera lens.

With her series Postcards, she used John Hindes infamous cards as a jumping-off point, and created modern images in homage to the classic cards. She challenged the depiction of Ireland by inserting multi-ethnic subjects into the images, whilst also divesting them of any accessories that might suggest them as a tourist.

Again, she explored identity in her series Farmers. Farmers was not simply a selection of images of white, male, middle-aged farmers. Anna instead subverted the stereotype and depicted women instead. Not as farmer’s wives, but as farmers.

Anna Rackard’s work is socially-minded and very beautiful. You’ll find yourself looking for little details and characteristics in her subjects, and rejoicing in her composition. This fine-art photography is refreshing and positive, so be prepared to leave the exhibition on a high. {tortags,23929,3}
