A wealth of Irelands Historical figures rest side by side in this national necropolis. We are a Not for Profit Organisation and our aim is to continue the preservation of the cemetery's monuments and historic graves. Some of Irelands most influential figures rest within the Glasnevin Museum and Cemetery Walls.
These include: Michael Collins, Eamon De Valera, James Larkin, Maud Gonne MacBride, Countess Markievicz, Charles Stewart Parnell, Michael Cusack and Brendan Behan (to name a few)
Glasnevin Museum also offers guided tours which takes in a selection of the 1.5 million people buried within our 124 acre cemetery, The tour includes a visit to the crypt of Daniel O Connell which Lies beneath the iconic O'Connell tower. This is a unique opportunity to learn more about Ireland’s complex history.
Be sure to also visit the 'City of the Dead' in our museum, hold on to someone tight as you walk through our reconstructed exhibition of how a grave robber conducted their grim business.
The cemetery still to this day serves Daniel O'Connell's vision of burying 'People of all Religions and None' with Dignity.
