Project Arts February 2020

Flights by John O’Donovan | 21 Jan – 8 Feb
On a dark and stormy night, Barry, Cusack and Pa gather again for the anniversary of their childhood friend Liam – killed in a road accident when they were seventeen. Expecting a crowd and tearing into the cans, the three slowly realise they’re the only ones coming.

Venus in Fur (Rough Magic SEEDS Showcase) | 5 – 8 Feb
Thomas has auditioned every incompetent actress in New York City. Vanda is hours late, drenched from a thunderstorm and definitely wrong for the part. Yet somehow she persuades him to give her a chance that sets off the audition of a lifetime.

Arts and Disability Connect – Funding Scheme for Artists 06 Feb
Arts and Disability Connect is a funding scheme specifically targeted at individual artists with disabilities. Arts and Disability Connect includes New Work, Mentoring and Training awards.

Irishtown by Ciara Elizabeth Smyth (Rough Magic SEEDS Rehearsed Reading) 07 Feb

It is a week before the opening of a new Irish play on Broadway. In the rehearsal room, the cast are panicking. The writer’s previous play was a smash hit drama set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. She’s been commissioned off the back of it and the producers expect another instant classic. Except her new play is about sexual harassment and seagulls.

All Honey | 11 – 22 Feb
Ru and Luke are throwing a house-warming. They intend to warm their house. However, their guests seem more interested in whispering in the box room than joining the festivities.

IN LiMBO | 13 & 14 Feb
Sitting in-between the two worlds of traditional and contemporary, IN LiMBO takes a journey where few have gone within Irish step dancing. The four live musicians and ensemble of six dancers have taken the basics of what makes the tradition so attractive and translated it into a new but still recognizable language of music and dance.

Company Philip Connaughton presents Mamafesta Memorialising 19 – 22 Feb
My mum has senile dementia. I made my last piece about her. But it wasn’t enough. I still have more to do and more to say. I’m worried that what’s happening to her will happen to me. So this piece is a memory exercise for three male dancers.

Eriu Dance Company presents Walls Talk | 25 – 29 Feb
Walls Talk is a dance piece for solo dancer, Breandán de Gallaí, and singer, Gina Boreham, supported by pre-recorded arrangements of jazz classics by 2 composers. The work considers the notion of memory being recorded in the material world around us

The Spider’s House | 27 Feb – 07 Mar
A nightmare from a disordered mind. In this haunted love story Roderick Ford explores the limits of our compassion and the heart’s darkness. Set in a zone at the margins of the monstrous and the human this gothic romance asks what relationships are permissible and who should be denied love.
