Creatures of Samhain

Creatures of Samhain

Immerse yourself in an authentic Halloween experience this October as Samhain Family Festival invites young and old to Meeting House Square in Temple Bar on 23 October for a free day of family fun that celebrates the magical art of story telling.

The “Creatures of Samhain” show will retell Irish myths and legends for young ears, as seanchaís and colourful characters bring spine-tingling tales of the Morrigan, Caorthannach (a monstrous dragon monster), The Fairy Queen and her Aos Sí, and the cheeky Puca to the Ark outdoor stage.

With stories from children’s writer Dave Rudden, costumes from Claire Garvey, and designs from Kiki Na, this free show brings story, dance, puppetry and theatrics together to bring the rich culture of Ireland’s folkloric stories to life.

After the show, children will be encouraged to harness the spooky sounds of nature with the Morrigan’s “Sounds of the Forest”, play Halloween games with the cheeky Pooka, and cast out the cobwebs with our resident good witch Cailleach, as she brings us on a journey of discovery about inner magic through spells and mantras to inspire positive wellbeing for would-be witches and warlocks.

Off-stage, Meeting House Square will be a hive of activity with face-painters and  walkabout interactive characters. Don’t forget to bring a book to be exchanged at the Samhain Book Swap.
