Dublin Cuban Film Festival 2026
Three days of Caribbean cinema at the New Theatre in Temple Bar. The Dublin Cuban Film Festival returns for its third year with two Irish premieres and a programme of rarely screened documentary shorts from Cuba’s revolutionary archives.
All proceeds go to mediCuba-Europe. Thu 23 July, 7pm — Cuba After Castro (Irish Premiere) The first and only American interview with Cuba’s president Miguel Díaz-Canel. An intimate portrait of Cuba’s first leader born after the Revolution as he navigates US sanctions, a media war, the pandemic, and historic protests. Followed by a drinks reception. Dir. Abby Martin & Matthew Belen | 90 min | English | €15 Fri 24 July, 7pm —
Nicolás: From Yare to Miraflores (Irish Premiere) Before he became one of the most contested figures in global politics, Nicolás Maduro was a bus driver on the streets of Caracas. A first-person account of his journey to president, told through archive footage and revolutionary folk music. 125 min | Spanish with English subtitles | €10 Sat 25 July, 1pm —
After the Revolution: Part 1 Housing, Land and Peasant Rebellions In 1959, Cuba’s new government founded ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts) — a film institute with a mission: to educate a nation with an 80% illiteracy rate. The revolution’s first acts were rent cuts and land reform. This collection of rarely screened short films shows what that looked like: peasants seizing land, Havana’s overcrowded tenements, and the rent reductions that changed everything. Approx. 90 min | Spanish with English subtitles | €10 Sat 25 July, 4pm —
After the Revolution: Part 2 Music & the Blockade From the founding of ICAIC, Cuban cinema turned its focus to Afro-Cuban culture: the music and traditions marginalised for centuries. This programme moves from that cultural awakening through the start of the US blockade and the La Coubre explosion, closing with Santiago Álvarez’s Che Guevara tribute. Approx. 90 min | Spanish with English subtitles | €10 About mediCuba-Europe
