Experience Japan
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Experience Japan Hanami Festival, a special concert will be held on Friday 5th April.
Four champion Japanese performers including Hiro Hayashida (former Kodo member and global award-winning Taiko Master) joined by Miyu Kobayashi (Shinobue & Taiko), Luke Hayashida (Taiko) and for this special event, Hibiki Sawada on Shamisen.
In addition we will also have leading Irish musicians involved, including Robbie Walsh (Bodhrán), for a fusion of Irish and Japanese music.
Experience Japan is a series of events designed to celebrate Japanese culture and the Japanese community in Ireland. Our events promote integration and cultural understanding between all communities. The centrepiece of Experience Japan is a ‘Hanami’ festival day where families and friends come together to enjoy free music and dance performances, along with demonstrations of Japanese culture. ‘Hanami’ is the traditional Japanese custom of viewing flowers, especially cherry blossom, to mark the arrival of spring. The annual Experience Japan festival in Farmleigh House and associated events are supported by the Office of Public Works, Dublin City Council and the Embassy of Japan. Experience Japan is an entirely non-commercial, community organisation operated by volunteers.
