“In Broad Daylight”

Next 23th May, the personal and creative universe of Miguel Hernández arrives to Dublin in form of exhibition at Instituto Cervantes. “Miguel Hernández, In Broad Daylight”, curated by Juan José Téllez, closes the events to honour the poet from Alicante in the 75th Anniversary of his death: a global portrait of the writer through a comprehensive visual journey that follows Hernandez’s footprint. The opening of this new show will take place on 23th May at 6pm and will include the performance of guitarist Juan José Manzano to get you in the mood for this poetic walk. The show will be opened to the public until the 5th July and admission to the opening and the show are free.

Pictures, paintings, letters and different memorabilia provided by the Jaén provincial government (Andalusia, Spain) reveal the essential keys of the author’s life and work, focusing on the young man who made poetry his creed. “Miguel Hernández, In Broad Daylight” includes fifty original pieces, including handwritten correspondence with authors such as Pablo Neruda, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Lorca or Ramón Sijé, in addition to those he sent to his wife, Josefina Manresa, mainly during the Civil War and his time in prison. The exhibition’s itinerary goes through the poet’s childhood, his education and literary influences; illustrates his political commitment and his participation in the Spanish Civil War; touches on his relation with religion and his sentimental life, and travels from his time in prison to his death, to offer a complete vision of his literary and social legacy.
