Through storytelling, poetry and conversation, the event explores the stories of Irish people in resistance during World War II imcluding Mary Elmes, Katherine ‘Kate’ McCarthy and Samuel Beckett, followed by audience Q&A. Mary Elmes (1908–2002), from Cork, was the first Irish person honoured as Righteous Among the Nations for saving Jewish children from the Nazis. Katherine ‘Kate’ Anne McCarthy (1895–1971), a Cork nun joined the Musée de l’Homme Resistance group in Northern France. Samuel Beckett (1906–1989), the renowned Irish playwright and novelist, was also a member of the French Resistance during WWII. Clodagh Finn and John Morgan are co-authors of The Irish in the Resistance: The Untold Stories of the Ordinary Heroes Who Resisted Hitler. Clodagh is the author of Through Her Eyes: A History of Ireland in 21 Women and A Time to Risk All, a biography of Mary Elmes.
