Once again the sound of children playing will echo throughout Merrion Square Park as Dublin City Council hosts its 13th annual event to celebrate ‘play’. Playday is the only national day for play in Ireland and is traditionally held on the first Sunday in July.
This year Dublin City Council have decided to make Playday a two day festival in celebration of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) Article 31; the child’s right to play! The event promises to be a fun-filled Festival of play involving lots of adventures, fun and activity.
National Playday is the biggest event in Ireland hosted mainly by local authorities to advocate, promote and support ‘play’ as a right for all children and young people.
This year the theme for National Playday is ‘back to basics’ So come along and enjoy the fun and excitement of building a den, hide n seek, pillow fight, giant bouncing maze, playing with the arts, dress up, Giant Bubbles and creating your own play space and games – Basically just playing for play’s sake!
‘2019 National Playday Double Bubble Play Festival’ will take place in Merrion Square Park on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July from 1 .00 – 5.00 P.M. each day.
This event is brought to you by Dublin City Council Parks & Landscape Services – Play Development and is supported by The Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
