We started the year with an online event for Women’s History Month called ‘Rock Hard Women’, filmed at the Grand Social and is available to watch on our YouTube channel. Getting Hitched, an interactive play on Zoom devised by Carnation Theatre, was fantastic fun and, even better, gave the participants a great excuse to wear their wedding hats!
We had our first outdoor events in May when we had fantastic dance workshops at Mountjoy Square celebrating World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. We also launched the film, In the Vicinity of the Sun, choreographed by John Scott from Irish Modern Dance Theatre. The film will be featured at numerous international festivals this year.
Our ever-popular walking tours have started up again. We have an exhibition of work by local artist Tara Kearns, Aduantas, which was to have taken place last year, but which we were able to have this year thanks to the generosity of the Sheriff Youth Club. Tara also has another exhibition in DLight Studio from 26th July. The CHQ Buildings will also see a beautiful collection, PALIMPSEST, of works created by Katherine Sankey, Larragh Pittman and Rebeca Kehoe. We are very much looking forward to hosting The Magic Box, a puppetry performance for children in the CHQ Buildings. Finally, we were also very proud and excited to launch a children’s story book by Niamh Gleeson, I Remember, which will be available to buy from our website and at some local shops.
