orn on St. Patrick’s Day and hailing from County Wicklow, Hozier was raised on the building blocks of popular music: rhythm and blues, soul, jazz and the deep dark stuff stretching from Chicago to the Delta. He joined his first band when he was 15 years old, fronting a soul band with some older heads. Hozier taught himself to play guitar and piano, and went to Trinity College to study music. However, four years looked like a long stretch, particularly when the goal was to write, record and perform his own music, so he dropped out to concentrate his talents on the creative process. Hozier’s first release was a four-track EP in 2014 that featured his five-time platinum hit Take Me to Church. He followed this up in 2016 with the single Cherry Wine, raising awareness of domestic violence. Following the release of Hozier’s Nina Cried Power EP earlier this month, he’ll be hitting the road this December for a string of new live UK shows.

Foals are a British-based indie rock band. Originally formed by Jack Bevan and Yannis Philippakis, the band’s trajectory has been remarkable. And while the majority of contemporaries have fallen by the wayside, Foals continue to hit new peaks. Seen as one of the best live acts in the UK, Foals have once again embraced that love for the unconventional with the bravest and most ambitious project of their career: not one, but two astonishing new albums: Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost. A string of new dates to support the new releases kick off in June.

Most famous for his role as lead singer for Pearl Jam, a band that formed a fundamental part of the grunge music scene of Seattle in early nineties, Eddie Vedder became a reluctant pop icon much like his then contemporary Kurt Cobain. Alongside Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, Pearl Jam became the “voice of the passion and fears of a generation” according to Time magazine, on whose front cover Vedder was featured in October 1993. However, despite huge success for all the bands listed, Pearl Jam’s debut album, Ten, outsold them all, reaching platinum record sales 13 times over. Tackling difficult subjects such a depression and suicide, Vedder’s lyrics touched the otherwise disenfranchised youth of Generation X, connecting people through music in a way that had not felt possible by other genres of the time. Born in Illinois but raised mostly in California, Vedder’s first band, Bad Radio, although successful in his hometown of San Diego, never reached a larger audience. It wasn’t until ex drummer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack Irons, connected him to the other members of the band in 1990, that Pearl Jam became a possibility. Iron’s sent Eddie a demo tape of the […]

Credited as a major influence on artists such as U2, The Pogues and Sinead O’Connor, Christy continues to tour and record and the dynamism of his performances are not to be missed.

Damien Dempsey’s voice is Dublin yet wholly distinctive, almost clichéd to say it, but he is part of a rich bloodline of Irish singers from Luke Kelly to Ronnie Drew, Christy Moore to Andy Irvine. Their kin outside Ireland are Springsteen and Guthrie, Dylan and Marley. On his latest album Almighty Love, Dempsey’s sense of place reaches out beyond Donaghmede and North Bull Island, where he first performed in public as a teenager, across the Irish Sea and further afield.

Tickets on sale now Hot 8 Brass Band Announce ‘Take Cover’ European Tour + video for new single “Love Will Tear Us Apart” – Tru-ThoughtsFor over 20 years one of the most popular and visible funk-style brass bands in community parades and funerals has been the Hot 8 Brass Band. In 1996 sousaphone player Bennie Pete was instrumental in merging two former Fortier High School student groups, the High Steppers and the Looney Tunes Brass Bands, to form the Hot 8. The players grew up together and maintain strong, family-like bonds and regular membership. Most of them were born between 1975 and ’87 in a generation that grew up hearing mainly modern-style brass bands in community functions. The band can be larger than many younger groups often featuring ten members, including three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, bass drum, and snare drum. As is common among some more modern groups, the Hot 8 uses only one reed player and like most of the younger bands, the Hot 8’s funk style is a blend of influences from the Dirty Dozen and Rebirth, with more elements of contemporary r&b, rap, and its local variation, “bounce.” The uniqueness of their sound is mainly due […]

Jenny Lewis had her first taste of stardom when she was a child, appearing in a series of television shows and films and later forming the indie rock band Rilo Kiley with Blake Sennett in 1998. Her work with Rilo Kiley drew upon the seediness of her native San Fernando Valley and nearby Hollywood, but she began to expand her horizons when she released a country-tinged solo debut called Rabbit Fur Coat in 2006. Rabbit Fur Coat established Lewis as a formidable singer/songwriter in her own right, and her reputation only grew after the group split, thanks to the rustic Americana of 2008’s Acid Tongue and the slick pop sheen of 2014’s The Voyager. Having ended 2018 on a high note with the announcement of her fourth solo album On The Line—to be released March 22nd on Warner Bros. Records—Jenny Lewis has now unleashed the first taste of her highly anticipated return with the first single, “Red Bull & Hennessy,” now available as an instant grat via pre-order and on all digital/streaming platforms here.
