Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like Suspect Device and Wasted Life. In November of ’77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night. These were the first of what became SLF’s signature style: lyrics that meld the personal and political, music that combines the energy of punk with infectious hooks, and delivery that rings of honesty and commitment. In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK top 20 album charts on an independent label with their debut Inflammable Material. The album chronicles the band’s anger and frustration at “the Troubles” in Northern Ireland, and calls on youth to create their own reality.

To celebrate the release, Beirut are currently touring headline shows throughout North America and Europe and today have just announced 2 highly anticipated shows at Dublin’s Vicar Street this August 2019. The 12-track Gallipoli started life in the winter of 2016, with Condon returning to his old Farfisa organ, the same one used to write the first two Beirut albums (2006’s Gulag Orkestar and the following year’s The Flying Club Cup). Following recording stints in New York and Berlin (where he now calls home), Condon settled in Sudestudio, a studio complex deep in rural Puglia, southern Italy. It was here that he rediscovered the old joys of music as a visceral experience which became the founding principle for Gallipoli.

As his parents struggle to provide for him and his brothers in 1940s Ireland, we follow young Frank’s escapades and experiences in a Dickensian landscape peopled by a drunken father, a helpless mother, pompous priests, bullying schoolmasters, money-lenders and dancing-teachers, culminating in his defiant escape to a new life in America. A haunting score adds to the emotional impact and the humour of the story. ANGELA’S ASHES THE MUSICAL has that rare gift of bringing an audience to tears one minute, laughing out loud the next – by turns deeply moving and riotously funny. The book climbed quickly to the top of that newspaper’s Bestseller lists and remained there for nearly three years selling 4 million copies in hardback alone. Since then, […]

Country Multi Grammy Award winner Brad Paisley has announced a Dublin concert at 3Arena on 13th October. This is his first Dublin show since he headlined the renowned Country To Country festival two years ago. Special guest is North Carolina’s rising star Chris Lane. Brad Paisley is a critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, guitarist and entertainer whose talents have earned him numerous awards, including three GRAMMYs, two American Music Awards, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards and 14 Country Music Association Awards (including Entertainer of the Year), among many others. Squeeze formed in 1974, shortly after teenage friends Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook began their songwriting partnership, brought together by an ad in a sweetshop window. By 1977 they had made their recording debut and enjoyed a string of hits that lasted until 1982. Over the years there have been solo careers and occasional separations, but the Ivor Novello Award-winning songwriting duo got back together in 2007 to relaunch Squeeze. Cradle to the Grave is the band’s latest and 14th studio album. It features the first collection of new songs from Difford and Tilbrook since 1998. Squeeze are touring the UK in 2017 with their Join the Dots tour.

The first is his 1986 release, ‘Into The Light’, which Chris had shrewdly envisaged could be the record that might place him fully centre stage as an international artist – and so it proved, thanks to one song in particular: ‘The Lady In Red’. It was the composition which finally established him as a known singer-songwriter around the world and has since become an undeniable evergreen classic. It achieved No. 1 status in 47 countries, including the UK, reached No.2 in America and has now sold in excess of 8 million copies. To this day, it remains one of the most played songs on the planet; in America alone, it has been the recipient of six annual ASCAP (Association of Composers and Publishers) Awards, presented to acknowledge it as among the Top 20 most played records in the United States in a period of 12 months. The second album is ‘Moonfleet & Other Stories’, from 2010, which took Chris on the most ambitious, demanding and evocative journey of his long career which, by then, had resulted in albums sales approaching 50 million worldwide. “I gave myself the biggest challenge in writing and recording that album,” Chris estimates. “It was very […]

Since emerging in 2012, singer, songwriter, and producer Blackbear has released alt-R&B albums Deadroses , Digital Druglord , and Cybersex — each extolling the pleasures of sex, drugs, and luxury consumerism. His streaming hits, the platinum-selling “Idfc” and the double-platinum “Do Re Mi” (“Do Re Mi, I’m so fucking done with you girl”), further established the 28-year-old. Blackbear is no musical lightweight. He’s an effortless songwriter with a keen ear for melody, a knack for distilling complicated ideas into tight, precise lyrical spaces, and a relentless perfectionist who prizes technical excellence as a producer and mixer. Aside from his own prolific output of singles and EPs, Blackbear earned his bones working with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Nick Jonas, Childish Gambino, Linkin Park, and — most notably — Justin Bieber, for whom he co-wrote the 6x-platinum single “Boyfriend” with his friend and Mansionz collaborator Mike Posner. A savvy entrepreneur, who also runs his own label, Beartrap Sound, Blackbear became the first recording artist ever to monetize his own Soundcloud.

At the end of the 1970s momentous change was afoot in Britain and the world – in society, politics, fashion and culture – and the musical landscape was also about to change forever. The guitar-driven dominance that had propelled rock and punk throughout the decade was about to end, as synthesizers signalled the sound of the future and video transformed the look of the pop charts. The 1980s were about to explode into life and nothing would be the same again. At the heart of this seismic leap into a futuristic new dawn were two records that set the template for much of what was to follow. Visage’s single ‘Fade To Grey’ from the band’s debut eponymous album and Ultravox’s single ‘Vienna’ from the album of the same name were global hits that shared the same stark ambience, European aesthetic and electronic heart. The albums that birthed those landmark singles expanded that sonic palette even further and brought the art-school alternative into the very centre of the mainstream.

Their love of Irish music is evident in their sound, a skilfully achieved blend of rock, folk and alternative influences.

Snarky Puppy is a collective of sorts with as many as 25 members in regular rotation. They each maintain busy schedules as sidemen (with such artists as Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and D’Angelo), producers (for Kirk Franklin, David Crosby, and Salif Keïta), and solo artists (many of whom are on the band’s indy label, GroundUP Music). At its core, the band represents the convergence of both black and white American music culture with various accents from around the world. Japan, Argentina, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico all have representation in the group’s membership. But more than the cultural diversity of the individual players, the defining characteristic of Snarky Puppy’s music is the joy of performing together in the perpetual push to grow creatively.

Electric Six has often used The Devil as subject matter for its songs because of that last bit, the part about corruption and adulteration. That’s what Electric Six has been trying to do with its music now for quite some time!!!! We want to corrupt young women….just like The Devil!!! There’s nothing more rewarding than the seduction of a young innocent maiden, forcing her to wear demonic dresses, levitating her towards the great fiery skull and watching her eyes turn black as she gives into evil and becomes the bride of The Devil!!!! That….is why we started this band….to help women realize their potential as sexy evil maidens with eyes reflecting the utter darkness of a corrupted soul.

A conceptual album presented across three chapters, ‘III’ is audacious: every note, every syllable, and every moment of silence in between is emotionally charged. The album is darker in tone anything they’ve done before, with each part centering on one main character from a fictitious family known as The Sparks, who span three generations in the album’s storyline. Mixing raw emotional themes with their ear-catching melodies, expressive vocals and trademark acoustic sound, ‘III’ moves masterly in artistic directions not yet travelled by the band. Written by the two founding members, Wesley Schultz and multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites, the album sees violinist/vocalist Lauren Jacobson officially joining the band, after playing on their previous two albums. Lauren completes the touring lineup that includes pianist Stelth Ulvang, bassist/backing vocalist Byron Isaacs and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Miller.
