At our weekly drop-in workshop, children and their parents/guardians/carers are encouraged to work together on creative projects. Drop-in and stay for as long (or as little!) as you wish. These workshops are suitable for children of all ages, and take place in the Maples and Calder Creative Space in our Atrium. These free workshops take place weekly, every Sunday from 11.30am. Join us for a special tour designed for children and their guardians, parents and carers. Our aim is to make the artworks fun and engaging for kids, and to welcome families and visitors of all ages and encourage them to feel comfortable in the Gallery. Flavours of South Dublin Food Festival is scheduled to take place in Rathfarnham Castle Park on Sunday 23rd June 2019 from 11.00 am – 6.00 pm. This unique food festival will showcase the very best cuisine from the locality, and aim to highlight the diversity and vibrancy of the food culture in the county. This is the third year of the festival, it is free to attend and guarantees to be a great day out for the whole family with entertainment for all ages including live music and dance, demo kitchen, face painting, balloon modelling,… but also free guided tours of the Castle (www.rathfarnhamcastle.ie). The Festival will take place in the grounds of Rathfarnham Castle, which dates from Elizabethan times and is probably the earliest example of what is termed a ‘fortified house’ built in Ireland. Over the past thirty years, an extensive programme of preservation and restoration has secured the historic fabric of the building and returned the principal Georgian interiors to their former glory.

This workshop encourages creativity and self-expression through the creation of a word or shape, by the participating children, using letterpress and full colour printing. (Max 6 children) 10.30 am-11.30am
During this workshop, children taking part will learn about and explore the basic principles of letterpress printing and discover how, through combining letterpress and new technologies with tinkering and making, they could express themselves in a fun and creative way! Dublin Maker is a free to attend, community run event, which will be held on Saturday July 20th, 2019 in Merrion Square. Dublin Maker takes the form of a “show and tell” experience where inventors/makers sourced through an open call, will have an opportunity to showcase their creations in a carnival atmosphere. It is a family friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, artists, science clubs, students, authors and commercial exhibitors. They are of all ages and backgrounds, coming from all over Ireland and beyond. Dublin Maker’s mission is to entertain, inform and connect the makers of Ireland, while inspiring the next generation of Ireland’s makers and inventors.
This summer, join young Mary on a journey of discovery as she is sent to her uncle’s house in the countryside, where mysteries and secrets lurk round every corner… As she makes new friends and encounters magical creatures, Mary has one burning question: where is the location of her uncle’s secret garden, and where has he hidden the key? This enchanting story, loved by children and adults alike, is presented in Dublin city centre’s very own secret garden at Dublin Castle. Relive this classic tale of secrecy and curiosity in what will be one of the highlights of our summer programme. This is an outdoor event.
